The beauty and the peace between the peaks of Iezer-Papusa and Stone Mountains
In a depression of Iezer-Papusa Mountains and Piatra Craiului Mountains is one of the most beautiful dams in Romania, lying on top of Dambovita valley. Starting from Saticul de Jos, a tourist hamlet, very nice and quiet, from Podu Dambovita, you have to go 25 km causeway and once you`re there, you will find a lake of extraordinary beauty.
The dam is made of riprap (a mix of materials: boulders, stone and concrete forming the foundations, dams and dikes) with an upstream mask of reinforced concrete. The dam has a height of 107 m and a length of 267 m. Underlying the sealing mask is made a gallery on account that have been done 50 vertical draining boreholes. The storage lake is used for water supply, hydroelectric energy production and irrigation.

The altitude of 1,117 m where it is located and the year when was made, namely 1984, are two of the criteria that formed the basis of an assessment after which Pecineagu was named the largest rockfill dam in Europe, placing it among the top 10 dams in the world. The Pecineagu dam has an area of 182 hectares can accumulate up to 63 million m² of water.
The draining bottom, with a capacity of 109 m³/s is made through a gallery located on the right side, this process is controlled by an underground house for the valves to which the access is achieved through a fountain. At the exit of the gallery is made a dissipative technical system, extended by a channel of 80 m lenght by a trapezoidal section.
