MERIDIAN RENT A CAR would like to invite you to a getaway in the Bucegi Mountains in order to discover the latest and most spectacular mountain road in Romania. The TransBucegi Road, also known as the Babelor Road, is the only access road to the Bucegi Mountains and also passes the area where well-known landmarks such as Babele and Sfinxul lie.

This road is not only an alternative to the cable car in Busteni but also a way to explore the Bucegi forests and admire the stunning views. The road is 20 kilometers long, of which, only 17 are paved. Start your route in Sinaia, go past the Cuibul Dorului cabin, climb the Saua Dichiu road and then cross the Bucegi plateau until you reach the Piatra Arsa cabin. From this point on you can no longer go by car but you can reach Babele by making a short trip of approximately 30 minutes. The Bucegi plateau sits at a 2400 meters altitude and offers a breathtaking, incredible view. If you enjoy the fresh air, from the Babele cabin you can choose to go on one of the following hikes: “Crucea Eroilor” on the Caraiman (1 hour), “Releul” on Costila Peak (2 hours) or Omu Peak (3 hours).

If you are not a big fan of the mountains or you are just not equipped properly, on your way back, you can continue your road trip by going through the Ialomitei Valley. From the Piatra Arsa cabin you can head to Pestera Monastery that lies inside the Ialomitei Cave. Nearby, you will find the Padina cabin and a great camping place. The road that passes through Cheile Coteanu and Cheile Tatarului will surprise and definitely amaze you.

The Bolboci Lake lies 10 kilometers away from Ialomita Cave and it is an artificial dam lake on the river Ialomita. By the lakeside you will find the Bolboci cabin which offers accommodation and a restaurant.

Not far from here you can also find Cheile Zanoagei and the waterfall with the purest water in the world, the 7 Springs Waterfall.

Upon returning to Sinaia or Busteni, we recommend visiting the Peles and Pelisor Castles, the Caraiman Monastery and the Cantacuzino Castle to those who haven't yet.

Traveling through the Bucegi Mountains is a true adventure, full of adrenaline and emotions. The road is common for a mountain area, with many switchbacks and portions of unpaved road here and there.
