Poiana Brasov is a locality in Brasov county and is famous for its 12 ski slopes with varying degrees of difficulty, such as: Fir - 458 m, Kanzel - 350 m, Sulinar - 2441 m, Ruia - 540 m, Subteleferic 1 - 495m, Subteleferic 2 - 2220 m, Lupului - 2860 m, The Red Road - 3821 m, Stadium - 300 m. Poiana Brasov is mentioned for the first time in the historical documents in 1427 due to the activities of sheep breeding.
Postavaru peak was opened to skiers since 1895, and in 1906 the first skiing contest took place. Poiana Brasov became known as a tourist destination in 1951, when it hosted the "Winter University Winter Games". Thanks to this event, the most modern hotel of that period (Poiana - Postavarul) is inaugurated. Then gradually were build other facilities and hotels that helped develop the locality as we know it today.
